Bio

Christina Mok’s constant search for growth and inspiration has led her on a musical journey full of opportunities in performance, teaching, outreach, and writing music.

As a soloist, the San Jose Mercury said of her concerto performance, “She was a spellbinder as she dug in and let it fly…There was no need to long for Itzhak Perlman or Gil Shaham.” She appeared as a soloist with the Janacek Philharmonic, Symphony San Jose, the Stockton Symphony, the Seoul Symphony Orchestra and the Monterey Symphony among others.

As a chamber musician, she was a founding member of the Laurel Ensemble and the curator of the Monterey Symphony Chamber Players’ concerts. Highlights include Musicarama Festival in Hong Kong and Yo Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble concert in the Bay Area. She has given recitals in Korea, England (BBC), Norway, Japan and the US. She frequently gives duo recitals with pianist Miles Graber.

Christina has been leading symphony orchestras for three decades. She is currently the Concertmaster of the Monterey Symphony and the Stockton Symphony. She served as Associate Concertmaster in the Symphony San Jose for 20 years. She has participated in festivals such as the Evian Festival, Proms, Mainly Mozart Festival and the Midsummer Mozart Festival.

As an educator, she has taught at San Jose State and Chapman University. She is also the creator of educational music shows and served elementary schools in the Bay Area working with the Music for Minors organization.

She is an advocate of new music and enjoys collaborating with composers. Her performance video of John Wineglass’ Alone won numerous awards in international film festivals, including Best Musical Performance at the Rome Film Awards. She has written original compositions for a documentary “My Skin’s on Fire” and for the children’s theater production “Betty and the Feast.”

She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with a full scholarship and was also honored with a British Council Fellowship. Her principal teachers include Soon-Chung Suh, Yfrah Neaman and Rodney Friend.
